Plateful of Prompts 1
Working with Seniors in an Independent Living Facility gave me the rare opportunity to step into not only a time warp but to enrich my life with their experiences. We met each week, and frankly, they were some of the best writers I ever encountered. Some wrote in poetry form, others prose. I would either introduce a verbal prompt or display a picture for them to use as a ‘bread starter.’ They never disappointed me. Their minds were clear when it came to conveying their thoughts. Feelings were a little harder to excavate, but they came in time. I had to be sensitive to their attention span and the time we had allotted. Fifteen to twenty minutes seemed to be the average time it took them to write down their reflections. Then we would discuss them in a non-judgmental way.
What was your first job?
What did you learn from it?
What did your block look like growing up?
What word would you most like to associate with you?
What movie star would you like to have been?
